April is Filipino Food Month and the beginning of the wet rice planting season in the Philippines! So this month our dessert box is full of Kakanin--a collective term for traditional Filipino snacks and desserts made primarily with glutinous rice, coconut milk, and sugar, popular as meryenda, and during holidays and celebrations.
Our April Halo Halo Box includes:
- 2 Bibingka (Gluten-Free): A baked coconut sweet rice flour cake baked in banana leaves and topped with shredded cheddar
- 2 Suman Malagkit (Vegan, Gluten-Free): Sweet rice cooked in coconut milk and sugar, wrapped in banana leaves, and steamed
- 2 Puto: Sweet steamed rice cake
- 2 Sapin Sapin (Vegan, Gluten-Free): A 3-layer steamed rice cake, each layer a different color and flavor, purple for ube, white for coconut, and yellow for jackfruit
