Background and a bit about us

  • Shop Halo Halo is a small, Filipina-owned and operated bakery and cafe located in Downtown Portland in a little breezeway called Union Way across the street from Powell's City of Books. We strive to create a warm and welcoming space that centers and uplifts community, highlights and innovates beloved flavors and recipes, and educates others about Filipino cuisine, culture, and history.

  • On our journey from pop-up to brick and mortar, we have been so fortunate to be offered the opportunity to pop-up at several local events, markets, and even at many small businesses! As soon as we opened our brick and mortar, we wanted to be able to offer space and highlight up and coming small businesses and artists as well as many of those who supported us along the way! Our retail area, features the products of many local vendors and organizations that we've had the honor of sharing community and space with over the years.

  • We prioritize local artists, organizations, and makers, but do carry products from folks all over the US!

  • We pay out consignors monthly at a consignment rate of 70% to the maker, and 30% to Shop Halo Halo via Venmo, Paypal, or Zelle. Payouts under $10 will be held until the next month, unless it is a consignor's last month, in which case, no amount will be withheld.

  • Typically, the industry standard consignment rate is 50%-50% or 60%-40%, for shops that primarily operate on consignment, these rates keep them operational. Shop Halo Halo is able to offer 70%-30% because the operating costs of our space are covered by our bakery, cafe, and catering income. We also try our best to pay forward the generosity and support we received from other small businesses and makers while we were starting out.

  • Each new consignment contract is 3 months long. This is so we can test how our audience responds to new products, and if a consignor or product is a good fit in our space. Depending on the outcome, the consignor will be invited to renew.

  • We support the creativity and hard work of artists and makers, and will not accept any AI-generated art or writing.

  • The price range of the products we currently carry is $3-35 and we don't tend to accept stock with a value of more than $50. We do carry some jewelry like, but no precious metals or gems. We also do not accept any explicit art/fanart.

  • Our shop is full of great artists and our turnover is pretty small, but as we prepare for the holiday shopping season, we are hoping to onboard between 5-10 new consignors in this round of applications.

  • Art items the shop is currently a bit oversaturated with: art prints and stickers (We'll still consider these items, just accepting less of them in general)

  • Fun things we're looking for more of: buttons, pins, accessories like hats, pouches, and bags, cards, stationary, magnets, keychains, skincare/care items, candles, small ceramics like little figurines and trinket trays, books, packaged food/snack items, any of the previous items highlighting Filipino, SE Asian/Asia Pacific culture, food, etc.

Requirements

  • Bringing on your art is a big deal and we want to treat it as such! That means we tend to be selective to ensure that items we bring in align with the vibe of our shop and pair well with our other offerings. At onboarding, we normally request a stock of at least 5 of each item. Please apply when you have ample stock of the items you're interested in consigning with us.

  • All prints must be backed and sleeved

  • Any packaged food item must be shelf stable, sealed airtight, and properly labeled with. For example, jarred sauces, jams, nut butters, snacks/snack mixes, tea, coffee, candy, and chocolates. We don't currently have the storage for items that need to be frozen or refrigerated, though we are hoping to purchase a display fridge soon and may be open to accepting items in the future.

  • We do our best to promote our makers regularly via our newsletter and social media and appreciate when they also share with their following that we're a location where their products can be found.

Timeline

  • After receiving your submission, we try to respond within 1-2 weeks.

  • If we take on your work, we'll ask you to fill out a consignment contract and a product list spreadsheet. Once those are complete, you're welcome to drop items off during our prep day on Tuesdays between 1-5pm, or during our open hours on Wednesday-Sunday, 12-5pm. I usually takes us about 1-3 days to process your art, add price stickers, and display in-store!

  • At the end of the 3 month trial period, we'll send you an email or message letting you know that the contract is ending (and potentially ask you to renew if our audience responded well to your work!) If any items are remaining, you'll have two months to pick-up or pay for shipping of your items back to you. Any items left uncollected 60 days after our expiration email without response will be put on clearance.

  • If the consignment contract is renewed, Shop Halo Halo is allowed to request the switching out of products on a bi-annual basis. For example, if an item has not sold within 6 months, Shop Halo Halo can request to switch the item out with a different product from the consignor.
